PM Deuba's State visit to India successful

It has been widely perceived that the recent State visit of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to India has been successful in boosting bilateral relations. 
The five-day visit PM Deuba had at the cordial invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi focused on strengthening of relations and expansion of development cooperation, thereby enhancing economic and diplomatic ties. PM Deuba had received special welcome when he landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Although there is the tradition in India of receiving foreign dignitaries by State Minister, Indian Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, herself reached at airport and welcomed PM Deuba, giving a message of special respect and significance. It was PM Deuba after the then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to receive such honour. PM Koirala was welcomed by then Indian PM Dr Manamohan Singh in 2063 BS. After leader Koirala, numerous Prime Ministers from Nepal had India visits but failed to receive such accolade. Similarly, the one-to-one meeting between the visiting Head of State or Head of Government is a matter of importance from any diplomatic point of view. As for one-to-one meeting between PM Deuba and his Indian counterpart Modi, it was already in the agenda. It may be noted that Indian PM Modi had invited PM Deuba at the former's official residence and held a meeting a day prior to scheduled meeting. Although the meeting was informal in nature, the meeting could be viewed as a diplomatic importance accorded by Indian PM to PM Deuba. Such one-to-one meetings take place among the leaders, it adds to the cordiality of the relations among them. Experts of diplomatic guild opine the rapport between the leaders could bring positive changes between their countries too. PM Deuba's Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Dr Dinesh Bhattarai, opined," This is a courtesy call and has also signified goodwill besides gesturing friendly relationship between the two countries. Such meetings help further consolidate the bilateral relations and augment the trust." The joint press conference was organized by both the executive heads of the both countries. It was evident that the strained ties between Nepal and India following the Indian-imposed blockade has improved the way both Prime Ministers addressed their common agendas. Indian PM Modi, addressing PM Deuba and the Nepali delegation led by him in Nepali language also speaks volume for the mutual goodwill between the two countries. Proof of boosting cordial relations between Nepal and India is exhibited in presentation and physical gesture of Indian Prime Minister Modi during the address at the joint press conference organised after the meeting. During the address, Indian PM Modi called PM Deuba by his name and remembered Nepali people time and again. Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Foreign Secretary Shankardas Bairagi, External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar were also present in the meeting. The venues both for the meeting and the press conference were arranged nearby. PM Deuba and Indian PM Modi reached the venue for the conference approximately 20 minutes after other participants. A joint press speech was issued in the same evening without any disputes, one of the indicators of a success of a State visit of any PM to India. The 46-point joint press release issued in course of the visit has clearly mentioned about the effective implementation of the agreements made so far between Nepal and India and the projects to be launched in future. Prime Minister Deuba briefed that the government of Nepal has put the project related to construction of Motihari-Amalekhgunj petroleum pipeline as the priority project. Indian Prime Minister Modi expressed happiness over the proposal, reads the joint press statement. India would provide necessary support for the national priority projects declared by the government of Nepal, mentioned in the joint press release. Similarly, the two country mechanism would be developed through infrastructure construction and it would help develop relation of people of two countries and economic development, added the press statement. The joint press statement also incorporated that bodies concerned were directed on accelerating the process of development of hydropower project and Pancheshwor Multi-Purpose Project. The statement further mentioned that the countries would extend cooperation in the sub-regional, regional and international forums for development and promotion of two countries' cultural relations. Another significant matters is Nepal's invitation to Indian PM for laying foundation stone to the much awaited Arun III project. The Indian PM congratulated Nepal for successfully holding the local elections and wished for effective implementation of the constitution.
